Why We Created RemembrLink: A Family's Story
RemembrLink didn't begin with an idea for a technology company.
It began with the loss of our father.
Like so many families, we found ourselves trying to make important decisions during one of the most difficult times in our lives. We wanted to create something meaningful that honored our father, could be shared with the people who knew him, and gave friends and family a place to remember his life.
What we were looking for seemed simple.
But finding it wasn't.
We Wanted Something More Personal
Our father was cremated, and we wanted an online memorial that we could share with friends and family, including through Facebook and other social media.
We weren't looking for anything extravagant.
We simply wanted a beautiful place where we could tell his story, share photographs and memories, and allow the people who cared about him to participate in remembering his life.
As we explored the options available to us, we realized that the experience wasn't what we had hoped for.
We Didn't Want Advertising on His Obituary
One thing in particular bothered us.
We didn't feel advertisements belonged on our father's obituary.
An obituary is one of the most personal things a family can create. Friends and relatives may visit it while grieving, remembering someone they loved or sharing condolences with the family.
We felt the focus should remain on the person being remembered.
Not advertisements.
Not products.
Not another sales opportunity.
That experience became one of the principles behind RemembrLink:
Memorials created on RemembrLink are ad-free.
We Thought Memorials Should Be Affordable
We also discovered that creating the type of memorial experience we wanted could become expensive.
Families already face enough financial decisions following a death. We didn't believe creating a meaningful online tribute should add an unnecessary financial burden.
At the same time, we understood that free options don't always provide the experience or features a family wants.
We began wondering whether there could be something in between.
Something affordable, but still beautiful.
Something simple, but still personal.
Something that didn't require another subscription.
That thinking eventually became RemembrLink.
Today, a RemembrLink memorial is $39.99 as a one-time payment, with no monthly subscription or recurring fee.
We Wanted Help Finding the Right Words
There was another problem we understood personally.
Writing an obituary can be difficult even under normal circumstances. Writing one while grieving can be much harder.
Sometimes you simply don't know where to begin.
That's why RemembrLink gives families a choice.
If you know what you want to say, you can write the obituary yourself.
If you need some help, RemembrLink offers AI-assisted writing with guided questions and prompts designed to help you remember the kinds of things commonly included in an obituary—family relationships, hobbies, background, important experiences and other details about your loved one's life.
The technology isn't there to replace your memories or your voice.
It's there to help when the words are difficult to find.
We Wanted Friends and Family to Be Part of It
We also wanted something more interactive than a traditional obituary.
The people who knew someone often carry memories that even close family members have never heard.
That's why RemembrLink was designed to provide a more social, interactive memorial experience.
Friends and family can participate by sharing comments and videos, helping the memorial become a collection of memories rather than simply a page of information.
Families can also share the memorial through social media, making it easier for people in different places to come together and remember someone.
We Built What We Wished We Had
Ultimately, that's the simplest explanation for RemembrLink.
We built the memorial experience we wished our family had when our father passed away.
We're not a funeral home.
RemembrLink began with a family's experience and the belief that there should be another option for families who want to create something meaningful without spending a fortune or turning their loved one's memorial into an advertising space.
We wanted something personal.
We wanted something interactive.
We wanted something affordable.
And most importantly, we wanted the focus to remain where it belongs:
On the person being remembered.
That's why we created RemembrLink.
